Item Creation Step 5 – Offers, Variations & Trademark Functionality
Offer & Condition details
·
- Item ID: This is a required unique identifier for each product. The Item ID is an open text, case-sensitive field and has a maximum of 50 characters. Please do not use special characters other than underscore “_”.
- Publish Start Date: This optional feature will allow an item to be built and will automatically send it through to the production system to be live on a particular date. You do not need to go back into the portal to set the item live.
- Tags: This field is optional. This field has no effect on the site. This is only for sellers to label items such as “Back-to-School” or “Summer Catalog” for their internal purposes.
- Item Condition: All items will default to a New condition. In some categories, item condition can vary. Item conditions are available in the drop-down. Any condition other than New will require an item condition note be added
Cost & Pricing Details
This section is where you determine how much you are going to sell your product for. Changes made to this section of the item build will be reflected on the site within 60 minutes if the item is already online
- Standard Price: This is the price you would list your product at, as if there were no sales or discounts applied.
- Package Quantity: This helps differentiate your item from other sellers. This is used for the categories that do not require UPCs. The Package Quantity will differentiate items that have the same product in varying quantities on the product page.
- Sale Price: This is the discounted price for a sale event. It is used to put your item on sale. It should be a temporary reduction of your Standard Price. When this price field is used, your items appear in our Discount navigation filter.
Shipping Details
This section of the product build will allow you to override the account level shipping rates. Some items require special shipping or a flat rate fee that can be applied to an item. Even free shipping on a single item might be added.
- Shipping Methods: This will allow you to designate an item not eligible for expedited shipping services.
- Flat Rate Shipping: This will allow you to designate an item’s flat rate shipping fee for the supported shipping methods.
- Free Shipping Override: This will allow you to offer free shipping on a single item. Click the “Free Shipping” box and then set a date in the future for the promotion to start and end. Promotional text is optional. However, it cannot be “Free Shipping” as setting this “Free Shipping” override will automatically place a “Free Shipping” logo on the product page.
Creating an item in Variations
The offers tab will show ‘Variant’ when we create an item in variation. The major difference in offers tab with and without variations is shown below.
The Variant Details Section has below information to be provided by the seller.
- Item Id: SKU code or item ID (Internal product identifier defined by the seller per each item)
- UPC Code: A valid UPC code of the variant should be provided (External Product identifier which is universally accepted). In the absence of a UPC code, sellers can use the brand name in the details tab to get the UPC field made optional. To know more, please refer to the UPC exemption process.
- Tags : Tags are Keywords that are optional and do not help with Search on the Sears website.
- Overall Color: The seller has to select the color of the particular item from the drop down list as shown in the image below. This also has an option of providing color name of their own choice as Trademark in the field just below the overall color.
- 5. Size: If the item has size variation, then the size option also has drop down values for the seller to select.
Color: This is an additional color option sellers can use to give exact details about the color of the product.
Color Swatch: This is an important piece of information that is to be provided by sellers.
Image url : Main image url for the product
Swatch Image url: The swatch image url is required in the field.
Variations
The term variation itself implies that there are two or more differences in one item, which can be of color or a size. On Sears, sellers can group a set of items in variations using a variation group ID (seller defined – alpha numeric). A maximum of 20 characters are allowed.
Example: If one T-shirt in black comes in sizes including Small, Medium, Large, & X-Large – the seller can group all the sizes with one variation group ID. Vice versa, if one T-shirt comes in different colors like Black, Red, Green & Orange, the same style of variation group ID has to be created and grouped together.
At times, a seller can also create variations using Trademark colors like Brick Red, Sky Blue, Midnight Black, Mahogany Brown and so on. This is only an option if the trademark color option is available for color or size per the category. The seller can check for the options in item class attribute mapping template for details.
To create variations, a seller has to provide information for the items in different colors or different sizes and select the varying attribute – maybe color or size – and then should group them using one unique variation group ID.
At times when there is already a set of items uploaded with the same variation group ID and a seller wants to add more to the group, then the complete group has to be downloaded and the new items in the list have to be added before the sheet is uploaded again.
Sellers can import their catalog and search for the variation group and filter out only specific items under one variation group ID and delete the rest from the spreadsheet to avoid confusion. They can then proceed to upload the new complete batch to avoid getting any errors.
Please note that all the item IDs/ SKUs must be different while the variation group ID can be same across the set of variations created.
Why create variations
It is observed that when customers find one item and they know that the same item is available in different colors and size options, the chance of getting sales is higher than when the different color options are listed individually.
Customers might not know that there are multiple options available for them to choose from when an item is listed individually. They might not proceed to buy one because they are unsure of the size or color.
When an item is created in variation, then the different options of colors or sizes are shown with the item found in a search and a customer can select the option of his or her choice.
Trademark Functionality
While creating items through the Seller Portal, you will get the Trademark option on “Variant” page.
For example: If you are creating an item in Blue, then the item can vary in shades like Navy Blue, Sky Blue, and Royal Blue. You can put the option “Blue” in the color attribute and use “Navy” or “Sky” or “Royal” in the Trademark option.
In this way, you can create three child items of that color variation. Here is the snapshot showing the Item created in Navy Blue:
