Variation items are used when you have multiple sizes/colors of an item.  This provides our Members with all options for a particular product so that they can make the best possible purchasing decision.  Variations are most popular in clothing and shoes categories but are also available in other categories such as electronics to designate screen size or in computers to designate hard drive storage size.  Below are step-by-step instructions on how to build variations.

Please note: Only certain Item classes support variation.

Navigate in the seller portal to Products >> Product Mgmt >> Create New >> Use your own content

The content finder page will appear.  In the second section labeled “Create New Product” choose the “Variation” option.

Clicking and activating the radio button for Variation will display the Variation Group ID field.  The Variation Group ID is how we identify what items are part of a particular variation grouping.  Variation Group IDs cannot be more than 20 characters and cannot contain special characters.

Populate all of the fields that are required on this screen and click the continue button.  Continue adding product information as you normally would in the Categorization, Details, Attributes and Images/Spec sections.  The Variants tab will be where you add the items that belong to your variation group.

Key reminders regarding variation attributes:

  • If you have a variation attribute for one item, you must have that same attribute completed for all items.  ex: color for one item must be filled in for all other items as well.
  • Swatch images are the image that will appear on the product page when a Member selects a size/color
  • Feature Image URLs should be a generic picture of the product as the swatch image is the specific item.  The system will choose one Feature Image URL to be displayed for the entire grouping.

Once you have entered the information for an item, click on the “Add Another Variant” button and another set of boxes will appear.  Enter the next item’s information and continue until you have added all other items.

Add inventory to your item in the inventory tab and complete the review process.  Your variation item will be built!
